Koombiyo (English: Ants) is a popular 2017 Sinhala teledrama from Sri Lanka. It is a crime and political thriller created by Lakmal Darmarathna and Damitha Chandrasiri. The series was shown on ITN from August 2017 to March 2018.
The story follows Jehan Fernando, a clever man who lives alone in Colombo with no family. He meets Priyantha Mahaulpathagama, an innocent village youth who comes to the city looking for a job. Jehan changes Priyantha’s life by bringing him into his small business, which secretly cheats customers. Soon, they become close friends.
As the story continues, Jehan’s true identity is revealed. He is not a simple fraudster, but a smart criminal mastermind who plans complex operations. He gets involved with gangsters, politicians, trade unions, and even corrupt journalists. Jehan uses intelligence, psychology, and technology to control people and situations.
Priyantha slowly moves into politics and becomes powerful, while Jehan begins to feel guilty about the harm caused by his plans. Their friendship is tested by power, corruption, and ambition. Koombiyo shows how small people, like ants, can change big systems, and how society can turn good people into criminals.
